September 2023 - Deception
Deception can be hard to see.
The whole reason it's called deception is because we don't know we're being deceived. If we did, it wouldn't be called deception.
In my own healing journey, I had to come to realize I was being deceived by my own beliefs about myself and the world around me. However, it took a while for me to realize this because of my blind spots.
Blind spots are simply areas in our lives where we may be off course. Sometimes, our direction may be off so slightly that we don't even notice - like moving one degree to the right or to the left.
This can cause us to be deceived into thinking we are on course. But then, over time, that small degree of difference becomes a gap between where we are and where we want to be.
What I needed was accountability – my community. Accountability is key to helping us stay on track. When we lack accountability, we lack the ability to become aware of our blind spots and the areas in which we are being deceived.
So, through my community and the accountability within it, I realized I was believing lies. But when we don't know what we don't know, it can be hard to detect the lies we're believing, and that is why we have to be humble enough to question ourselves.
One of the greatest questions we can ask ourselves is:
"Who told me that?"
This question can help us get to the root of the belief, and then we can determine if it's rooted in deception or rooted in truth. We can't be afraid to question our beliefs - this is one of the greatest ways we can prevent ourselves from being deceived!
